Carnduff Fast Trucking Centennial Arena Crop Fundraiser

Apr 26, 2013

The Carnduff Fast Trucking Centennial Arena has been the cornerstone of the community of Carnduff and RM of Mount Pleasant since 1967.  Serving not only as a skating arena but also as a place to gather for many community functions and fundraisers.

Since the Arena’s construction in 1967 an artificial ice plant and concrete arena floor were added in the early 1970’s.  New boards were installed in the late 1980’s, low-e ceiling insulation was installed in the late 1990’s, the lobby was given a facelift with some new paneling and viewing lounge windows in the early 2000’s and the lobby bathrooms were remodeled two years ago.

The Arena is still operating with many of their original components. The current ice plant has been running on borrowed time for a few years now and replacement will have to occur soon.To keep the arena operating and to fund future capital expenses user fees at the arena were raised by just over 90% last fall.

This spring we have an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser. Laurie and Lynn Connelly have graciously donated a quarter of land rent-free so that the Arena can grow a crop for a fundraiser.  Crop inputs are estimated to be $175 per acre. Two area farmers have already committed time and equipment for seeding and spraying. It is the goal of the Arena Board to have the cost of all crop inputs covered through monetary and product donations. Jeff Vanrobaeys of Precision Ag, Paul Puffaltof Paterson Grain and Darcy Schlosser of Viterra arecoordinating the crop inputs for this project. If you have any available storage for the crop or would like to donate crop inputs you can contact Jeff at 306-482-4343, Paul at 306-928-2102 and Darcy at 306-482-3893.

Interested in having the Provincial and Federal government pay for 26% to 44% of a community project?  Did you know when you file your tax return that you receive a 26% tax credit on the first $200 donated and 44% on any remaining donations over $200.  Example of one acre of crop inputs $175 X 26% = 45.50 tax credit.  $175 donation only costs donator $129.50.  6 acres of crop inputs $1050 donation would result in $426 tax credit.  (1050-200) X 44% = 374 + 52 (26 % on first $200 donated) = $426.  $1050 donation will only cost $596.

The Arena would like businesses and individuals to consider donating an acre of crop inputs. All cash donations are eligible for a tax-deductible receipt through the Town of Carnduff.  To make a donation mail a chequepayable to the Town of Carnduff at Box 100, Carnduff SK S0C 0S0 or stop by the Town office.  Please indicate that your donation is for the “Centennial Arena Crop Fundraiser.”

All monetary donations for an acre or more of crop inputs will be recognized with signage in the Arena.  All donations of crop inputs will have signage placed at the location of the crop at the request of the donator and their donation will be recognized in the Arena.

If you have any questions about the fundraiser you can call Layne Douglas at 306-482-7273 or Mason Crossman at 306-482-6355.
