Cameco Hockey Day in Saskatchewan

Dec 12, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

December 11, 2014

The Saskatchewan Hockey Association and Cameco announced today a new partnership that will bring Cameco Hockey Day in Saskatchewan across the province for the next four years.

The hockey festival will move to a different community each winter to deliver exceptional experiences for youth and provide the host community an opportunity to raise significant funds for local infrastructure.

The SHA has helped produce Hockey Day in Saskatchewan for the last seven years. This new partnership with Cameco will enhance the festival with new attractions and an increased host grant.

Carnduff -- a town of 1,200 people in the southeastern corner of the province -- will host Cameco Hockey Day on January 17, featuring 10 games during the weekend including an SJHL battle between Battlefords and Notre Dame.

New attractions coming to Carnduff include a special hockey camp for youth involving the Battlefords North Stars.

The community – which has been working for months to host this event - hopes to raise more than $50,000 during the weekend.

Cameco Hockey Day will move to central Saskatchewan in 2016 before going to the northern hockey zone in 2017 and to an east-central community in 2018. A selection process will be used to award Cameco Hockey Day to one community each winter.

As always, other communities throughout the province will host their own activities on the third weekend in January each winter. Those participating communities will be eligible to win cash and prizes from the SHA.
